One Track Mind

What does it mean to you?  Is it a good thing? Who influenced your style? What are your Shortboard dimensions?

The Malloy’s et al ask these questions and more to some of the most influential surfers of our generation, in the new woodshed production.  I found the section on shortboards so interesting I have broken it down:

Mick Fanning – 6′1” x  18 1/4  x  2 3/16

Kelly Slater – 6′1”  x  18 1/4  x  ?  -  currently looking to go down in length and up in width, lots of rocker with deep single concave.

Dane – 6′2”  x  18 1/2  x  2 1/4  – constant rocker, no flat spots on board, probably standard rocker, not as much as Kelly’s board.

Taj – 5′11”  x  18 1/4  x  2 1/8  – Single concave with quite a bit of rocker

Andy Irons – 6′2”  x  18 1/2  x  2 1/4  – Boxy tail into harder rounder rail, not too much rocker, pretty flat

Jordy Smith – 6′3”  x  18 5/8  x  2 1/2

Occy – 6′8”, likes real basic boards, not as much rocker as other guys!

Sunny – 7′6”, Single to double concave to V in tail so board leans over easier on turns.

I really like seeing a list of shortboard dimensions like this to compare what each surfer would choose to ride in similar conditions.  The big differences in boards just highlights how much personal opinion has to play in board choice when surfing good waves.  Draw your own conclusions:
