Check this barrel sequence.  Looks like Zuhair on his 6’2” R100, cant tell for sure if its him but sure does look like him.  Rosy has sent him an email to check it out.  The sequence is on page 22 of 26, quicker to qet to it by going t.hrough the thumbnails

I have a few photos of him from the last two winters we were over there, I must dig them out.

I have been messing around with picassa the last few days and I must say I am impressed, the “I’m feeling lucky button” has been churning out some good results for fast editing.  One thing I have found though is I need a new laptop, this 7 year old acer just cant crunch enough zeros and ones!

This collage was put toghther in about 10 seconds, pretty nifty.  Download picassa free from google.

Where are you from hi?

The Surname Harkin is an anglicised form of the Gaelic O’hEarcain, derived from “earc” meaning “Red”. Thus, the surname may have originally denoted “descendant of Red”.

The name has been a principal in Donegal since the 17th century, particularly in the barony of Inishowen where it also appears in the faints of the previous century. Long before this date too, the O’Harkans were erenaghs of Clonskea in Inishowen (that is, held the lands of the abbey as lay lords fom generation to generation).

Below is one decendant of Red on a wee wave west of Clonskea:

How Surfboards are made

This groooovy video sheds some light on the much guarded secrets of how Surfboards are made……esential viewing!

One Track Mind

What does it mean to you?  Is it a good thing? Who influenced your style? What are your Shortboard dimensions?

The Malloy’s et al ask these questions and more to some of the most influential surfers of our generation, in the new woodshed production.  I found the section on shortboards so interesting I have broken it down:

Mick Fanning – 6’1” x  18 1/4  x  2 3/16

Kelly Slater – 6’1”  x  18 1/4  x  ?  –  currently looking to go down in length and up in width, lots of rocker with deep single concave.

Dane – 6’2”  x  18 1/2  x  2 1/4  – constant rocker, no flat spots on board, probably standard rocker, not as much as Kelly’s board.

Taj – 5’11”  x  18 1/4  x  2 1/8  – Single concave with quite a bit of rocker

Andy Irons – 6’2”  x  18 1/2  x  2 1/4  – Boxy tail into harder rounder rail, not too much rocker, pretty flat

Jordy Smith – 6’3”  x  18 5/8  x  2 1/2

Occy – 6’8”, likes real basic boards, not as much rocker as other guys!

Sunny – 7’6”, Single to double concave to V in tail so board leans over easier on turns.

I really like seeing a list of shortboard dimensions like this to compare what each surfer would choose to ride in similar conditions.  The big differences in boards just highlights how much personal opinion has to play in board choice when surfing good waves.  Draw your own conclusions:
